OUR WHY

OUR GOAL
Supporting the Neuro-NICU program at McLane Children’s
The difference a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) makes
Every baby deserves the healthiest possible start in life. For newborns who arrive too soon or face serious medical challenges, access to advanced, specialized care can make all the difference.
As the only Level IV NICU between Dallas and Austin, Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s provides the highest level of neonatal care available in Texas for the region’s most premature, medically fragile, and critically ill babies. Families depend on McLane Children’s for advanced technology, specialized expertise and compassionate care during some of life’s most difficult moments.
As our region continues to grow, so has the need for advanced neonatal care. Over the last several years, our NICU team consistently cared for more babies than the unit was originally designed to accommodate, often finding creative ways to make space for additional newborns requiring specialized care. To meet the growing demand, in February 2026, McLane Children’s expanded its NICU capacity by nearly 20%. The expansion included additional patient care spaces, a new 10-bed care pod, family-centered parent lounge, dedicated lactation room, and specialized isolation suites for critically ill infants
Help us expand the Neuro-NICU program through Kiella Cares
McLane Children’s is expanding its Neuro-NICU program for newborns facing neurological injuries, seizures, extreme prematurity and other complex conditions.
After much research, McLane Children’s clinical leaders are developing specialized care protocols, expanding staff training, and have identified the need for investing in innovative monitoring technology, like Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) monitoring. NIRS monitors give nurses and doctors a real-time view of how well oxygen is reaching a baby’s brain and vital organs, helping them identify concerns early and intervene before complications become life-threatening emergencies.
With this technology, care teams can:
- Detect warning signs earlier
- Monitor oxygen levels in the brain and vital organs in real time.
- Make faster, more informed treatment decisions.
- Give critically ill and premature babies a better chance to heal, grow and go home.
Your impact
When you support Kiella Cares, you help equip doctors, nurses and specialists with the tools and resources needed to care for the most vulnerable patients in Central Texas. By investing in the continued growth of McLane Children’s Level IV NICU and Neuro-NICU program, you’re helping provide lifesaving care, bring peace of mind to families, and giving more newborns the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can ensure that every child has access to extraordinary care from their very first moments of life.
